Who we are

A message from the landlady:

La Casa sulla Roccia is located in Luino, in the province of Varese, in the Lombardy region in northern Italy, in the quiet hamlet of Luino, called Colmegna, at about 330 m of moderate altitude. In this position you can enjoy the sun from morning to night, which is why Colmegna was proudly called the “Riviera di Colmegna”. Our house is facing south in all its breadth and offers from the balconies and roof terrace free views up to Stresa – in apartment “Stella” also directly from the bed.

Particularly favorable is the connection by car and train. The famous Ticino cities of Locarno, Ascona and Lugano (Switzerland) are easily reachable by car and the fashion and culture metropolis of Milan for a day trip by car (Park & Ride da Lampugnano) and by train from Luino at a reasonable price. The boat trip on Lake Maggiore is also very well developed, with wonderful round trips and excursions to Switzerland, Piedmont and the famous Borromean Islands with the much sung Isola Bella.

The whole area around Lake Maggiore offers a huge variety of recreational activities for hikers, climbers, paragliders, cyclists, cyclists, cyclists and golfers, just to name a few. In winter you can also go to the slopes and enjoy the snow on skis and snowboards during the day and retire to a comfortable apartment under the palm trees in the evening.

If children are also our guests, we are happy to provide a mobile cot, for older children we can create a sort of play area with large plush toys, seat cushions, Lego bricks and small pillows (all sterilized), as well as fairytale books and board games.

For all guests who appreciate the special comfort of the shower, the Stella and Nina apartments are equipped with non-slip bath stools.

On arrival, all guests will find well refrigerated prosecco, a bottle of red wine and four bottles of mineral water (if you wish, still, light or sparkling, at room temperature or cold), a basket of fruit, something to munch on and fresh flowers to recover from the labors of the trip. A pair of flower scissors is available for general use so that everyone can feel at home, fresh from the garden, depending on seasonal availability.

For general use there is a washing machine and dryer, as well as a clothes rack, ironing board and iron.

Thanks to its hilly position, comfortable steps with secure handrails and good lighting can be climbed to the house even at night.
There will probably be a grill station, a pizza oven and a hot tub from 2020 (not yet available this year).

In conclusion, we can say that we see ourselves more as hosts than as hosts and we prefer to be generous rather than “cheap”. We are often present in the main house, even at night if needed, but we are never curious or intrusive. You could almost say invisible.
